This painting draws inspiration from the groundbreaking imagery emerging from NASA’s new PACE satellite, which can observe global ocean biology and health from space. This painting captures an impression of the vibrant blooms of phytoplankton, tiny marine creatures crucial to ocean and climate health.

The imagery, processed and enhanced by NASA’s imagery specialist Carina Poulin, struck me deeply. Poulin’s work transforms raw satellite data into stunning visual representations, enhancing colours to reveal the hidden beauty and complexity of marine ecosystems.

A hopeful and woman-centred vision of nature and our seas, challenging the patriarchal order that has long prioritised the exploitation, rather than protection, of natural resources.
