Our Plastic Seas III

£425.00

Every day, I stroll along the beaches of East Sussex with my faithful canine companion (Geoffrey, the Welsh Terrier). During low tides, especially after stormy nights or during spring tides following the full and new moons, the shoreline reveals its treasures. Among the seaweed and shells lie remnants of marine life like mermaid's purses, cuttlebones, and whelk egg cases. Sadly, alongside these natural wonders, I encounter a plethora of discarded fishing nets and plastic fragments, some of which have journeyed vast distances. Faced with this overwhelming sight, I saw an opportunity to repurpose these fragments into canvases for my art, painting seas on what would otherwise be waste. My aim is to portray 'seas of plastic,' a sobering reminder of the potential fate of our oceans if we fail to change our ways. Through transforming litter into painterly sea vignettes, I strive to evoke both hope and urgency in the call to protect and preserve our oceans. This process symbolizes our collective choice to love and safeguard these vital ecosystems, showcasing the power of transformation even in the face of environmental challenges.
